Hansi Flick was in the headlines even before the match because his team had won only four of their last 16 matches and had been eliminated in the first round of last year’s World Cup.
garman coach, Hansi Flick, stated that despite the unexpected 4-1 loss to Japan`s in an international friendly match on Saturday and several poor results, he is still the right person to lead the team.
The four-time World Champions garman had hoped that this match, nine months before hosting Euro 2024, would mark a new beginning for them. Instead, it turned into a defeat, with continuous jeers from home fans and empty seats.
Flick was already under scrutiny before the match because his team had won only four of their last 16 matches and had been eliminated in the first round of last year’s World Cup.
This latest setback will intensify calls for Flick’s departure.
Flick informed the press, “I understand that football can be quite unpredictable, and I can’t foresee the future, but as far as I’m concerned, we are doing everything in our power to ensure the team’s thorough preparation.”
When asked specifically about his future, he said, “I believe we are doing a good job, and I think I am the right person for the job.”
Since taking over two years ago, Flick has not achieved any success with the Germans. They were eliminated in the group stage of last year’s World Cup, winning only one match out of three, and have shown no real signs of improvement since then.
“I am very disappointed, and we have to accept that Japan has a very good team,” Flick said. “We struggled to penetrate their well-organized defensive setup.”
In the match against Japan, Germany was ahead at the beginning. But they scored, we came back and equalized, and we felt the support, but then they scored again.
“In the second half, there were many individual mistakes.”
Flick, who started his tenure with eight straight wins, now has to prepare his team for a tougher task against 2022 World Cup finalists France on Tuesday.
Flick affirmed, “We’ll undergo thorough preparations and make the necessary adjustments. Opting to face the strongest opponents was our choice. Today, we found ourselves unable to overcome this team. As we get ready for France, we’ll instill confidence in the team. It’s a daily commitment. I can appreciate the constructive feedback.
“We have to go through this together. We are a team. We lost heavily today, but we have to bounce back and be different against France.”
